What we do differently

PORG Libeň Grammar School is a non-profit secondary school located in Prague 8 in Libeň. The school regularly achieves some of the best results from the country's state final exams, with similar results when comparing them with SCIO, NIQES and Kalibro benchmarks.

  • PORG Libeň is a small and cozy school. Since the founding of the school, we have followed the rule of "one year, one class." Each class holds 24-26 students. The total of 196 students and 18 professors enables us to know one another personally, which contributes to the school's family atmosphere.
  • PORG Libeň is located in a quiet street, two tram stops from the Line B underground stop at Palmovka, and a few meters from a park. The school also contains a garden that students often use to play, learn, and relax.
  • The teaching staff is reasonably young (the average age is 38) with a slight predominance of men (11:7).
  • PORG regularly achieves excellent results in comparison to other secondary schools in the Czech Republic. This applies to both state institutions (Ministry of Education - CERMAT) and independent institutions.
  • PORG is able to flexibly respond to current trends in education and science. For example, it provides long-term stays for its students at partner secondary schools in the USA, Germany, England, Scotland, and France. It enables the best science students to work at top scientific sites (e.g. University of Chemistry and Technology Prague). PORG has been the most successful Eastern European school in recent years with regard to the programme at Center for Talented Youth at John Hopkins University - Baltimore. We also participate in international programmes such as online CTY courses. PORG provides significant support for students enrolling at the world's top 100 universities (Counselling Programme).
  • PORG is certified by the American College Board and can provide Advanced Placement, PSAT/ NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 exams for both our own students and external students. We offer our own students exams that are necessary to enter British universities.
  • Students are prepared for international language exams: Cambridge Level B2 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for English, the Delf for French, and the ZD for German.
  • We provide individualized counselling for admission procedures to foreign universities; our students are regularly successful even at top schools in the UK and the United States.
  • Our students come from families where education is at the forefront of their values. The families that enrol their children at PORG are willing to contribute financially for a quality education.
  • Exceptional communication with parents. The school uses a parental portal. Students are not only evaluated for their knowledge, but also for their approach. In addition, they get a verbal assessment.

The atmosphere at our school is considered to be very good.  Both between students and professors, and especially with regard to students to each other.  The opportunity to be within an inspiring environment full of interesting people is appreciated most by the students and teachers of PORG.

Classification of the school within the framework of schools

"The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic classifies the eight-year practical grammar school, Prague 8, Lindnerova, within the system of private secondary schools as of 1 September, 1990." (letter from the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic dated 5 June, 1990, file no. 17659/90-02)

PORG has been classified within the system of secondary schools by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports since 1990. This means, among other things, that all certificates issued by us have the same validity in relation to the state as a certificate from any other secondary school in the Czech Republic.

PORG is an eight-year non-state grammar school.

Its mission is to comprehensively prepare students for their future careers and provide them with an environment to cultivate the development of a well-rounded and balanced personality. An overwhelming majority of our graduates successfully continue on to study at university, however, preparing our students to study at university is but one of PORG's many important goals and students are not systematically engaged in preparation for entrance examinations until their last year of study.

PORG was founded in 1990

It was the first non-state school after 1948 and it unwittingly helped create space for the establishment of other non-state schools in our country. In addition to contributing to the creation of legislative conditions for other non-state schools, the school has become a pioneer of new approaches and methods in teaching. Giving evidence to this is the fact that today we have established subjects such as "integrated science" and "roots of European culture", which in some cases have become inspiration for other schools as well.

PORG is a school providing a general education,

our curriculum greatly emphasizes a balance between humanities and the natural sciences. On the other hand, the school creates a space for students' own focus on subjects of their own interest – the main means of this is through the range of elective subjects in the higher years of study.

Tuition and scholarships

The annual tuition fee for PORG Libeň grammar school is:

  • CZK 60,223 for years one to seven
  • CZK 56,290 for year eight

Tuition includes all teaching aids, textbooks, and recreational activities.

The primary interest of the school (PORG publicly beneficial corporation) is the opportunity for gifted pupils to study regardless of their parent's financial situation. The Pavel Hlavinka Study Fund grants PORG Libeň scholarships for talented students from families whose financial situation does not allow them to pay full tuition fees. The scholarship is unqualified and is awarded on the basis of an individual assessment of the application; the study fund takes into account the family's income and financial standing. The study fund grants scholarships of up to 25-100% of tuition fees for the entire eight years of study – unless the family's financial standing changes. The situation is reviewed every two years.

Merit-based scholarships are awarded according to the following key: The average is determined for all subjects (without regard to seminars) for all three school terms. The student with the best results has their entire tuition covered for the year, 2nd place has a scholarship covering 2/3, and 3rd place has 1/3 of their tuition fees covered. Should students have the same average for 1st or 2nd place, students with the best study results get 3 parts from a proportion of two scholarships, 2nd place gets 2 parts, and 3rd place is not awarded. This also applies should there be two first place winners and two second place students. Should there be two third place winners, the amount is equal to 1/3 of the tuition fee divided between the two students. The sum of scholarships must be equal to two 100% scholarships for each age group.
