1st grade Primary school Ostrava

What we do differently

Our pupils experience daily the joy of what they have done, what they have managed to do, what they have learned. We encourage children to be able to cooperate, to agree, to present the result of their work, to give advice to others, but also to accept advice.

PORG Brno ZŠ

English

We are a Czech primary school with a significantly expanded English language curriculum, which we teach from 1. Class. We measure English language skills at PORG using standard Cambridge exams. Primary school pupils achieve PET level, which proves the B1 level of English (GCSE level). Pupils from 1. classes meet regularly with native speakers who teach English and workshop (aesthetic education).

Readership

Reading comprehension, working with text, searching for key information are areas we pay a lot of attention to. We also encourage collaboration on the book with students from the upper grades. An example is the Reading Together project, in which first-graders participate together with third-graders.

Clubs and clubs

We offer dozens of different activities (sports, art, science, language) in two age categories. Everything is included in the basic tuition fee. We also cooperate with the Eduard Marhula Primary School of Art, whose teachers come to visit the children.

Workshop

Pupils also encounter English from the first grade onwards in the Workshop classes as a combination of art, music and drama. The subject is taught by native speakers, which means that the pupils are in daily contact with English in a very natural way and have no problem communicating in the language. In the fifth grade, we lead the students in a final dramatic performance, also in English.

Geography and Science

We also teach a Science class in English in 4th grade and Geography lesson (Geography) in 5th grade. Pupils do not learn in the language, but in the language, acquiring the necessary knowledge in both areas. Subjects are taught in a project-based manner with final presentations to both classmates and parents.

Cooperation with the family

Close cooperation with the family is key for us. We communicate regularly with parents about what is happening in school and the progress of individual pupils. Parents can follow the weekly schedule, which is available through the parent portal. Class meetings are organized for each student individually. During the distance learning period, they are conducted online.
