Building friendships across cultures through English as an international language:
Our pupils recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit PORG Ostrava Elementary School to tour their European Countries geography project – and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
This was more than just a school visit. It was a meaningful opportunity for Czech pupils and overseas students of the same age to connect, communicate, and learn from one another in real time. Using English as a shared language, they presented their research, answered questions and exchanged experiences of countries they had visited, broadening their global understanding together.
One particularly interesting moment was hearing first-hand from a pupil born in Finland, who shared insights into both the culture and language, bringing classroom learning vividly to life.
Experiences like this develop confidence, cultural awareness, and the communication skills our pupils need to thrive in an interconnected world. Most importantly, they create genuine connections, and perhaps even friendships that will continue beyond school and across borders.
At our school, learning goes beyond the classroom. We are proud to nurture globally minded, future-ready learners.
