During the last week before the Christmas holidays, nobody’s mind is really on studying! Therefore, it’s a great time to go and put some of our learning into practice.
We took a trip by tram to the Forum Nova Karolina shopping centre in town, spent some time on the playground, bought lunch, did a little Christmas shopping and headed back to school.
In the process, the pupils learned about timetables and practiced using them to plan when to leave where they were and catch a tram. They learned about the different tram routes around town and buying travel tickets.
Everyone had a little pocket money but it’s never infinite, so they had to keep a count of what they had spent, how much they needed to buy lunch, and make sure they kept enough so that they could eat.
They also had the opportunity to try out some of the phrases they have learned in our Czech For Foreigners course, as well as giving staff at the shopping centre a chance to try out their English!
At all times, they had to stay sensible and safe, keep an eye on each other and the teachers and behave nicely because we were all in school uniform.
All in all, everyone had fun practicing their maths and social skills and there may even have been some world records set for the percentage of body volume drunk in bubble tea!
