Czech for Foreigners has been a part of our school curriculum for a long time but two of our pupils have taken it to new heights.
Polina and Dominik recently won Gold and Silver medals for their excellent recitals of Czech poetry at the Moravian-Silesian regional competition. This competition is organised to promote Czech for Foreigners and took place in the beautiful suroundings of the Komorni Klub in Ostrava’s historic Jeremenko quarter.
Over 50 children from the region took part and our pupils‘ choices of poems close to their souls helped them to deliver the expressive interpretations which so impressed the judges.
As an International School, we recognise that language learning is a key part of integration into a new culture and society. The Czech for Foreigners classes have long helped parents and pupils to learn basic phrases for day-to-day living but now we can see true cultural integration.
In the words of the first President of Czechoslovakia:
'As many languages you know, as many times you are a human being.'
