Education

Brunel University, UK, Certificate of Higher Education, Furniture Restoration.
Eastbourne College, UK, NVQ 3, Advanced Construction.
Portsmouth College of Art, UK, National Diploma, Historic Building Restoration.

Experience

Jeff’s career in education began just after the fall of the Iron Curtain with a year teaching ESL in Czechoslovakia. He then followed his interest in design and creation by studying architecture and the restoration of historic buildings. This was followed by studies and a career in furniture design and restoration. As market trends changed, he moved into the construction industry, where he combined his skills by setting up a company specialised in remodelling listed buildings. He managed projects which combined historic preservation with modern building regulations and began teaching apprentices. After getting married, he moved to Prague and then Ostrava, where he has found a niche for his experience specialising in design and technology in PORG International School, bringing together his passion for creating original work with his belief in using Earth’s resources wisely and in harmony with nature. Since 2021 he has also been studying and teaching computer science and leading the school’s Code Club, with a conviction that the 4th industrial revolution could be the saviour of humanity if managed responsibly.

Interests

Jeff was a keen surfer when he lived on the coast but has developed a love of bushcraft since moving close to the Beskydy and Jeseniky mountains. He still has a small space at home for crafting projects such as wood-carving and is teaching himself screen-printing. He also got a sewing machine for Christmas, which he was unnaturally excited about! As part of his interest in the possibilities of the circular economy, he is learning to recycle and upcyle clothing and textiles.
