Congratulations on passing the Cambridge CAE exam to our Year 6 pupil, Michal!
While his achievement at such a young age is not unique, it is certainly remarkable. Michal has been with our school since Year 1 and has therefore been learning English daily for 6 years. More importantly, he has been actively using it for education and socialising at the level of a native speaker for the majority of this time.
While it has long been known that early exposure to a second language leverages the natural ability of a child’s developing brain to absorb knowledge, his success owes a great deal to his hard work in studying for the Cambridge CAE exam.
If you are not familiar with language exams, CAE stands for Certificate in Advanced English and Michal’s pass grade confirms his level of English as C1. C1 refers to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This framework defines several levels from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Fluent). The CEFR Scale defines a C1 speaker as one who:
Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

So, well done Michal. You have made an incredible achievement and you are an example of the benefits of immersive language learning from Year 1 onwards. We are sure your commitment to hard work will stand you in good stead as you continue your education at Grammar School!
