Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)

We are very pleased to announce an important milestone for PORG Ostrava. Two of our pupils have successfully completed the Bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), becoming the first students in the history of our school to finish this internationally recognised programme.
The award ceremony took place at the Poklad Community Center in Poruba, Ostrava, where students from many schools across the region gathered to celebrate their achievements. Notably, for a large number of the attending schools, this event also marked the moment when their first students completed a DofE award, underlining how rapidly the programme is developing in the Czech Republic.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award challenges young people to grow beyond academic learning through long‑term commitment in four areas: Volunteering, Physical Activity, Skills, and an Adventurous Journey. Completing the Bronze Award requires perseverance, responsibility, and the ability to balance personal goals with school life over several months.
Our two pupils demonstrated these qualities throughout their journey. Through volunteering, they contributed positively to their community. Their physical activities demanded discipline and regular effort, while the skills section encouraged them to develop new abilities and interests. The adventurous journey tested teamwork, planning and resilience—providing valuable experiences that extend far beyond the classroom.
DofE is steadily growing across the Czech Republic, with more schools joining the programme each year and increasing numbers of students taking on its challenges. We are proud that PORG Ostrava is now part of this movement and that our students are helping to shape its future.
We congratulate both pupils on this outstanding achievement and thank everyone who supported them along the way. Their success sets a strong example for other students and marks an important step forward for DofE at PORG Ostrava.
