PORG Ostrava at Debatiada Tournament

Last Thursday witnessed an electrifying showcase of intellectual prowess as PORG Ostrava’s debate teams took center stage at the annual regional Debatiada Tournament hosted by Wichterle Grammar School. Amidst a gathering of middle-school debaters from across the region, our students displayed remarkable poise, eloquence, and teamwork, leaving an indelible mark on the competition.

In Category I, representing the vigor of youthful intellect, was PORGanized Chaos, a formidable duo comprising Olivie Martináková and Naomi Lehner. Stepping into Category II with seasoned insight and experience was the MicroPORGanism team, composed of Eliška Brodová and Kristýna Krúpová.

The debates were nothing short of intense, with thought-provoking motions that spurred impassioned discussions. For Category I, the motion „Advertising Should Change“ prompted insightful reflections on consumer culture and its societal implications. Meanwhile, Category II tackled the pressing issue of misinformation with the motion „The Czech Republic Should Fight Against Misinformation.“

In addition to these challenging motions, both categories engaged with the universal topic of education through the motion „Art, Music, and PE Lessons Should Change.“ This motion encouraged participants to explore the evolving landscape of education and the role of creative expression and physical activity in shaping well-rounded individuals.

Despite facing stiff competition and navigating the complexities of the motions, both PORGanized Chaos and MicroPORGanism demonstrated commendable resilience and determination. While they secured victory in only one debate out of four, their unwavering commitment to articulating their viewpoints and engaging in constructive dialogue was truly commendable.

As we reflect on the outcomes of the tournament, it’s important to recognize the invaluable skills that debate instills in our young debaters. Debate nurtures critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork – skills that are not only crucial in academic pursuits but also in navigating the complexities of the modern world.
