Upon completing his Bacherlor’s degree in economics at Rice University in Houston, Texas, Ian worked as a wealth management intern at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Unfulfilled by the nature of the work, Ian moved to Prague in 2017, obtained a TEFL, and has been working as a teacher ever since. Ian’s teaching experience covers a wide scope inlcluding teaching and covering all subjects of the US common core curriculum to elementary ESL students. After three years of living Prague, Ian decided to pursue his studies further obtaining a Master’s degree in historical sociology from Charles University. His diploma thesis investigated the sociocultural history and impact of plastic commodity production. With his background in both economics and sociology, Ian deeply values thinking through subjects with nuance and an understanding of big-picture structural forces. With this in mind, he encourages his students to situate what they learn into larger historical or cultural contexts.

Zájmy

Ian enjoys spending his spare time at the gym or reading. He is working right now to perfect his squat, and some of his favorite books include: The Glass Bead Game by Herman Hesse, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, Perdido Street Station by China Miéville, and The Making of The Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. Otherwise, you can find him playing board games with his friends or FaceTiming with his nephews.
