Praxe
Václav studied English Literature at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford, and Comparative Literature at Yale University, where he obtained a doctorate in 2020 focusing on the cultural construction of animality between the mid-seventeenth and mid-twentieth century in English, French and Czech literature. Of particular interest to his research are Western understandings of animal subjectivity and their relationship to our culture’s religious life. During his post-graduate studies he taught as a Teacher Assistant at Yale’s Comparative Literature and Drama departments, as well as doing archival work at Yale’s Beineke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Vaclav then returned to Oxford, this time to Green Templeton college, to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Education and dedicate himself to teaching at the secondary level, which he has since pursued in private schools in the Czech Republic.
